A 24-hour notice is requested as a courtesy.

    • Practice: Expected to practice at least 5 times weekly. Practice points can be tracked via mymusicstaff.com to earn music store prizes.

4. Early Termination for Option 1 Students

  • To protect the emotional growth and commitment habits of students, they are expected to stay enrolled until after the End-of-Year Recital.

  • Leaving mid-year without prior discussion with the teacher results in a permanent ban from returning to the studio.

  • Note: If a crisis, financial struggle, or family emergency occurs, please reach out. Performance scholarships and resources are available to help your student finish what they started.

5. Lending Library

  • Students may borrow materials from the Reck Music Library via mymusicstaff.com.

Detailed Policies for Reck Music Studio 2025-2026

I love teaching students, and I want to do more than create musicians. My goal is to create good human beings. I want to help students learn how to deal with hard and stressful things. I want them to be able to plan, set goals, and see into their futures. I want them to learn to problem solve and build confidence in ways that other activities can’t compare. I look forward to working with you and your students!

Lesson Commitment Option 1: Standard

Students are expected to practice at least five times weekly and be prepared to perform their assigned pieces. Students can report practice times to earn points to buy prizes from the music store. Parents and I will discuss an appropriate amount of time needed to receive 1 point for the music store each practice session. Parents can record students’ practice points in the practice log on mymusicstaff.com. I ask that students practice whatever amount they need to be able to show up to lessons prepared to perform their best and continue learning musically.

Parents and students are committing to a year’s worth of private lessons beginning after the End-of-Year Recital. Students have 12 lessons they are welcome to miss anytime throughout the year. Days the teacher misses do not count towards the 12 missed days. Missed lessons may include, but are not limited to, minor holidays or school closures (e.g., Spring or Christmas breaks, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc.) and family vacations. The studio will be closed on Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and from mid-June to mid-July. Students who join in the middle of the music year will be expected to finish a year of lessons from the day they begin. Parents and the teacher also have 3 emergency days they may take off at any time for illnesses or family emergencies. If the teacher misses more than 3 days in the year, the student will have the opportunity to schedule a makeup lesson according to the teacher’s availability. Outside of that, there will be no make-up days, and all missed lessons will count toward the 12 missed lessons or emergency days. A 24-hour notice is requested as a courtesy to the teacher when a lesson is going to be missed.

Music is a performing art. Students are required to prepare and perform in the studio’s Christmas Recital and the End-of-Year Recital. Students have optional playing opportunities throughout the year, including, but not limited to, the Halloween Farmer’s Market, Celebration of Music by the Washington State Music Teachers’ Association (WSMTA), and Music Artistry Program (MAP) by the WSMTA.

Billing and Payment

Music lesson charges will be spread out throughout the year in monthly payments and are not dependent on the number of lessons in any given month. Piano lessons will be charged $120 monthly. Drum Set lessons will be charged $135 monthly. This amount may change at the beginning of any given music year (starting after the End-of-Year Recital).

Parents are expected to pay for the upcoming month by the first lesson of the month. Automatic online payments can be set up through mymusicstaff.com. Checks or cash are also acceptable forms of payment. Please request an emailed receipt when paying with cash. Checks can be written to Whitney Reck. Monthly invoices, lesson reminders, and receipts will be emailed and/or texted depending on preference.

Late or Missing Payments

Payments made after the 10th day of the month will be charged a $7 late fee. Students and parents who have 3 or more late and/or missing payments will be kicked out of the studio and asked not to return at any time.

Termination

For the well-being and emotional health of students, students are required to participate and stay enrolled in the music studio until after the End-of-Year Recital. By quitting early, students risk the opportunity for closure in finishing what they begin. My goal is to build strong individuals who are strong mentally and emotionally. If there are family emergencies or a crisis that may hinder a student’s ability to finish, please reach out to the teacher and inform them of the situation. There are performance scholarships for families who are struggling financially, and other resources that may help. Please don’t be afraid to let the teacher know what you or your family might be going through.

If, for any reason, a student chooses to leave the studio in the middle of the year without discussing it with the teacher, they will be asked not to return to the studio at any time.

Lesson Commitment Option 2: Adult

Adult students (18 or older) will be charged $120 monthly for a 30-minute weekly piano lesson or $135 for a 30-minute weekly drum lesson to reserve a lesson spot. Payments will be taken out at the beginning of the month for the upcoming month. Adult students must give one month’s prior notice before ending lessons to be eligible to return to the studio at any time. Recitals and performances are optional and must be approved by the teacher.

Lesson Commitment Option 3: Flex

Parents or adult students who would not like to commit to a year’s worth of lessons are welcome to take lessons whenever they would like. Lessons will be $45 for a 30-minute piano lesson or $55 for a 30-minute drum lesson, and must be scheduled through the teacher. Payment is due at the time of scheduling and will not be refunded if missed. Specific lesson times are not guaranteed and will be based on times that are available according to the teacher’s schedule. Performances are optional only with the teacher’s permission. Students are welcome to leave at any time with no repercussions.

Lending Library

Students are welcome to utilize and take advantage of the music lending library. Students may borrow music and are asked to return their music when they are done. Music borrowed from the music library must be returned in the same condition as when it was checked out. Music borrowed from the music library will be checked out through your teacher and recorded on mymusicstaff.com. Due dates for music will be put in, and an email will be sent when it’s time to be returned. Music not returned must be replaced or paid for by the student. Automatic payment may be charged to the student’s next bill for lost or unreturned music.
